A lazy Victoria Day long weekend, and for the first time in forever and ever, I haven't had a thing to do. Got some long-overdue housework done, a bunch of lying around playing games on the iThing, and that's mostly it.
In my last post, a couple of weeks ago, I mentioned having just taken my bike to the shop. It... went ok, I s'pose. The guy did a better job on it than anyone else around—not that that's saying much—but not as good a one as I had hoped. He left some things tightened more than they should have been, and others not as much so. None of which was a big deal, but was strange. He also reversed my gear cables, which caused no small amount of consternation until I figured out what had happened (being more than a little taciturn, he didn't actually bother to tell me much about what he did). But at least he had parts!
Most amusing to me is that in the process of having its cogset replaced, the ten-speed I took in came back out as a twelve-speed.
My marathon training is going great!!
After my #42point2 in Kelowna on the Easter long weekend, I did another one along the river pathways the following Sunday. Then the week after, out around Lake Chestermere. Last weekend I was pretty busy and didn't really have the time to do a full-length one, but a couple days ago, I jumped back on the metaphorical bandwagon, and did a run out past Coach Hill.
So yeah! The Calgary Marathon is in 5 days and counting. Unlike last year at this time, I still have the full use of both legs, so assuming I take care of myself, next weekend should be the one. At this point, it's mostly just a matter of what my time will be (so far, it's mostly been in the 4:20-4:25 range).
Otherwise, I have been, in the last couple of weeks, mostly occupied with Fringe Festival -related activites. I've volunteered to rewrite their point-of-sale box office system. The existing application was... suboptimal. It basically consisted of a Google Docs shared spreadsheet with a bunch of locked cells and formulas that each ticket-sale location (of which there are basically eight) updates simultaneously. It is now different. And (I hope) much better.
I am also the new vice president of the Calgary Fringe. (It's not official yet, but the nomination period is over and I've been acclaimed. There are only a few remaining technical hoops to jump through.)
How do I get myself into these things again?
At Taya's potluck last week; someone apparently borrowed my camera for a while and caught me performing an exorcism. Or, uh, something...
