All Hallow's Eve
I guess I'm just a "giving" kinda person.

My favourite part of Hallowe'en has long been giving the candy out. I remember even whan I was young there were a number of times when I declined to go out trick-or-treating because I preferred staying at home and giving the stuff to the other kids who came to the door.

Now of course for the last several years I have been either living in the UAE, or in a basement suite, where there has been scant opportunity to hand candy out to anyone, kids or otherwise.

So now that I once again live in a "real" house with a "real" front door, I am really excited to be able to hand out the goodies again. I went out last week and bought not one, not two, but THREE pumpkins, a huge box full of the best (IMHO: Caramilk and Mars Bars) and most expensive brands of cavity-makers. I took several hours out of my day this afternoon & evening -- time when I really should have been working on my midterm -- to come home, carve out the pumpkins and prop them up outside the front door... set up a bunch of corny little paper "ghosts" (mounted on sticks) on the lawn... bought orange fabric and covered the interior lights so there was just this cool orange glow from inside the window... stuck black cat and spiderweb silhouettes on said window, the whole works.

Put the bowl of candy by the door, sat back and waited.

For four hours. I sat there and waited.

And waited.

And no-one came. No kids, no nobody. Not a single person came to the house today. All that work... for nothing.

You have no idea how crushed I am.

That totally sucks!! I would be crushed too. How on earth did that happen?? Bad neighbourhood? Childless neighbourhood?

I, on the other hand, was surrounded by 80 hyperactive children all night. Please, send me the chocolate. ;)

> Childless neighbourhood?

Probably. Full of broke university students. Not so full of hungry trick-or-treaters.

though i was at work during the hours of the evening when little terrors dressed up in costumes would normally have been knocking on our door, my mother tells me that this year was a disappointment with only 20 kids. still, not as disappointing as yours...

Interesting. My father commented that he was surprised we only got about half of the number of runts he was expecting.... I've got a big bag of snack-size Oh Henrys under my desk that I don't wanna eat.
