Concerns about the world getting warmer / The people thought they were just being rewarded
Now this is interesting.

Dr. S (the professor for which I TA'd 349 last semester) is taking a leave of absence next year, and so they are looking for a replacement to teach his courses (among them, 349). And my name is apparently at "the top" of the list. I would just be granted the status of a sessional instructor, but still...

I'm not entirely sure how large that list is (something tells me, not) but either way the decision is to be made by the end of the week.

Normally you don't get to actually carry an entire class until you're a PhD student, but in my case they've made an exception. Indeed, as I understand it, I'm the first exception they've ever made. Wow. I'm, uh, flattered?

Can't wait to see how this one pans out...

Well, yes.

Basically it would push back my graduation by a semester—that's pretty unavoidable.

That'll be pretty awesome. What will this mean for your AWA work?

Regardless, I suppose it could be your first step towards tenure, or as homais describes it, answering only to God.

Nono, just the one. Sorry.

I'm not sure who they're getting to do the other one. He'll be back next September; as I understand it, there are only two that need to be filled during the time of his absence. The other is a grad course that is entirely outside my field. Heh. Yeah—not doing that one!

Hehe. It's just that F here has been teaching courses for the first time this year (one in the fall, one in the winter) and preparation is seriously eating up her week. So I thought that more than one new course would be crazy =)

Yeah, basically we swung a deal where I get a 1 semester extension on my degree (in general, you have 4 years to complete, but funding, etc. gets cut off after 2... my 4-year "hard" deadline is still in place, but the "soft" deadline has been extended to 2.3 years (i.e.: by 1 semester)).

So I still have one course to take—and that's pretty much all I will be doing next semester, aside from teaching. I will still probably get some research done, but don't expect to make any real progress on that until after the semester is over.

This is, of course, if I get the job. Although after further discussions this afternoon, it's looking likely.
