Well, a Happy New Solar Orbit to all.
I return tomorrow to the land of sun, if not warmth. And really, none too soon. One of these days I will figure out that Vancouver is best experienced in durations of 3-4 days, not two weeks. The idea of a two-week holiday here is much more appealing than its eventuality which, as I keep re-discovering, usually just leaves me mostly bored and uncomfortable.
Which may not be Vancouver's fault so much as mine; I am not built for long periods of doing nothing, even if under the guise of "relaxation."
Especially when I only see blue sky twice in that period.
Anyway. Enough whining. Next year, it will be shorter.
Except next year, it will also probably be in Kelowna. My parents still continue to make noises confirming their intention to "retire" (my dad? retire? hah! never!) in June and return to Canada. The plan has been to go to their place in Kelowna for a couple of years now, although apparently they sent an email to my aunt a couple of days ago (which I have not seen—I know of this only in the third person) that implied they might just come back to Vancouver for a while instead. I think, though, that this only refers to their earlier plan to spend the summer in Vancouver then head to Kelowna in September. Eh, who knows. I'm still expecting Kelowna next Christmas.
And I shall indeed endeavour to restrict that holiday to a couple of days. If I remember.
Not yet sure where I will spend NYE 2007. '06 was spent, as was most of my holiday, in a basement. Of the Burnaby variety, though, not the Coquitlam one. We ate a bunch of shitty pizza, drank a bunch of shitty expensive wine (never liked either Champagne or Ice Wine, which pretty much covers what there was on-hand), watched Lady in the Water
, which I hated and Joyeux Noël
which I, well... loved.
Admittedly, this latter is exactly the shmaltzy, sentimental mush that its critics make it out to be. But—and maybe it was just the alcohol working its magic—it got to me in just the right place. I began crying about 20 minutes in, and continued for pretty much the remainder. I was still crying by the time the film ended, even though I had no more tears to give. Yep, musta been the wine. Anyway, I can't really find it in me to speak any ill of the movie.
But that was pretty much it. After crying myself out, I went to bed, woke up the following day with a stomachache, and... yep. That was 2006.
And this is 2007 and so far it's been pretty boring and yeah. I'm looking forward to getting back home. I've had enough holidays for one season."Yep. They're a real handful, alright."
