So just down the hall from my office, in front of the elevators, is this foyer area which contains a couple of chairs.
The last two nights I've been pulling all-nighters, and on both occasions, I've noticed this girl sleeping on one of the chairs, where I have never noticed her before. Both nights, she arrived somewhere between midnight and 1:00, fell asleep on the chair, then left sometime between 6:00 and 7:00 AM.
I've so far been unable to overcome my "it's none of your goddamn business" instinct and actually ask her what's up. My current working hypothesis is that she's been separated from her prior living arrangement (the dates—Feb 1 and 2, immediately follwing the end of the month—are somewhat noteworthy) and this is the only place she has to sleep.
I've considered allowing her into the PL lab and letting her sleep on the couch there, which has got to be more comfortable than the chair, but have not yet done so. I have no clue who this girl is, and that's the sort of thing for which I might get in some amount of shit were she to steal/break/tamper with anything.
This now being the weekend, I don't anticipate any all-nighters for the next couple of days, but if she returns again Monday evening, I may bring in a blanket, let her sleep on the couch, and just do my work in the lab (instead of my office) where I can keep watch on things...
"What, me? Oh, nothing. Just hangin' around..."
