krazy kat

What the hell kind of team name is "Dinos"?

"Oxygen" may not have been the perfect name, but I liked it a hell of a lot better. "Dinos" just sounds like some kind of high-sugar breakfast cereal. Yay! Now with two scoops of nuts in every contest! Or three of them, at any rate.

Anyway. So I just got back from Letbridge. For those not in the know, Lethbridge is a little crap town in the middle of the prairie about 2.5 hours south of Calgary. There isn't really much there. Hell, there isn't really ANYthing there. Except a lot of wind, a lot of snow, and inexplicably, a university. Despite this amazing lack of things in Lethbridge, two of the guys (not on my team, but not that it matters) not only found a liquor store right across the street from where the closing ceremonies were held, but decided that getting rip-roaring drunk right before a 2 1/2 hour bus ride back home across the prairie was a BRILLIANT idea.

Note I do not consider the same to be such a brilliant idea. Especially not after having had to endure same people pissed to the gills and singing off-key heavy metal songs in the bus.

All. The. Way. Home.

Well. I was interested when I saw that the Middle East competition isn't until
December, ecspecially given that it was October 30th last year. The delay confused me at first, until yesterday, when I was in the middle of the competition and it clicked that it was being held during the middle of Ramadhan and dammit, I was HUNGRY!!

Grr. I hope it didn't affect my performance too much, although I suspect it may have.

So.
The good news is that University of Calgary came first in the competition. Yay!

The bad news is that it wasn't my team. It was one of them that had been together for two years.

The good news is that we did better than I had reason to expect.

We did manage to eke out 10th place. Which, under the circumstances, is respectable. So we weren't bottom-feeders... although we weren't exactly top-feeders, either.

It was fun. We will continue to practice along with the other 2 UofC teams (including the one that's going to the finals), and will be much better prepared for next year.

So all in all, I guess, I'm a lot less disappointed with 10th place this year than I was with 6th place last year.
