A Question:
So, I've managed to be conned into providing dessert/tea/snacks for about 30-40 hungry and (not so) demanding comp sci grad students next week. Any suggestions?

(Vegetarian preferred, garbage-stuffed rat cakes in water sauce already nixed.)

for dessert, i would suggest something like cupcakes, or brownies/bars of some kind, cause they are easy to make lots of. actually, the most glorious thing about brownies is that you just make the batter, whack it in a pan, and they are basically done. and with bar cookies, you can line the pans with tinfoil first (lightly greased), and it makes taking the baked goods out of the pan much easier.

err, that is, assuming you plan on making the food instead of selecting something to buy pre-made.

Yeah, that's the plan.

Thanks for the suggestion... I hadn't thought of that; most of the things I was considering were more involved. But sometimes it's the simple things that work best.

Banana bread is also stupidly easy to make.

I have an easy but slightly more expensive recipe for candied nuts too, if you want.

Tea: you could bring some cardamom for those who like the extra flavour.

Non-dessert snack, depending on how brown your department is: buy package(s) of bhel at an indian food store and put it together.

Bwahaha, you have the fear and loathing icon too. Let me introduce you to your fellow egyptiancatworshipper, sabotabby.

Oooh! Exxxcellent idea!

> bring some cardamom

Duh. I have a more-than-suitable recipe for chai that I like to drag out. I don't know why I didn't think of that.

Brilliant suggestions!

> depending on how brown your department is

Not very. I thought of (something like) that, but decided against it.
